Review: BALKAN Yugoslavian Home Cooking

Here’s an honest review of Balkan Yugoslavian Home Cooking in RCBC Plaza, Makati.

As I venture on different resto around Makati area, I’ve been passing by this restaurant 5 days a week and not have the urge to eat here. I don’t know why. Maybe because I don’t see a lot of people eating here everyday. And the total look of the restaurant doesn’t look appealing to me.

One day, my friend and I agreed to try this restaurant for a change. Ann got herself Pita Batak for php 119.00. And I got myself Cevapcici Meal pronounced as “chevachichi” for the same price served with sunnyside up egg, and garlic rice. Funny, that I can hardly read and pronounce the names of some of the dishes. I was smiling at the cashier and told him “why do you need to make things complicated in your menu? You can actually just place B1, B2, B3 to make it much easier to order. Lol!”. But of course, I was just kidding when I said it. But, it would really help customers order.😆

The Food

Surprisingly, the meat that looks like longanisa tasted good. It was made of beef and tasted even better when dipped in ketchup and mayonnaise. The meat is juicy and very tasty. Ann also liked the Pita Batak and will eat it again next time we dine there. The filling was also beef and since Ann don’t eat pork, it’s a place that sells meat dishes that she can eat. The serving was enough to make you full. Plus, the price is very affordable for an international cuisine. So, we will surely be back.

And now, I am looking forward to try out other dishes from Balkan. And see if I will be happy as much as I did with the Cevapcici Meal. I’m also looking forward to try their meal that looks like cordon bleu. I told you, I’m having a hard time pronouncing the dish so I’ll just base on how it looks. Hahaha!

The Place

The restaurant looks a bit dull and boring. Specially that it is located in betweeen two colorful restaurants. They can make a little revision on the design of the place to make it look a little attractive and inviting to customers.

Overall, I am happy with the food. And will be back for more. The price is very friendly and serving is okay.

I’d love to hear your experiences in this restaurant. Drop a comment or two! Thanks!😊

  1. I would have second thoughts going to a restaurant with foreign sounding dishes. We dont see many Balkan restaurant around… (i dont even know what Balkan is 😅…). I think the owners should address this barrier

  2. The place’s look really add para maka-hikayat ng customers noh?
I like the place’s white interiors, I think they should’ve opted for yellow-ish lighting though para mas attractive in some ways, and their tables and chairs -I’m a fan of yellow but those tables and chairs aren’t working. Huhu! That side of the wall with painting is nice but the other one, I don’t think so. Anyway, good thing they have good food. 🙂

  3. Seems a bit fast food-ish to me, interior wise. Is it? Or it’s a resto where the wait staff gets your order on your table? Because if it is the latter, I agree that they need a redesign. But if the food’s good, I wouldn’t mind. 🙂 I wish their menu’s better though. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I fin it unattractive when I can’t pronounce the name of the food and I still have to ask what goes in it.

  4. I agree with making things complicated. Hahaha. But i guess it’s their way of being unique and a way to carry their own branding.

  5. You’re right! For a restaurant that offers international cuisine, the prices of their food are quite affordable. They should also have an English translation of the dishes that are hard to pronounce so that customers will easily know what to order.

  6. Sometimes the ambiance/interiors of the restaurant helps us decide if we are to try it or not. Good thing you gave it try. Im on the same page that diners make their menu easier to read and names of menus easier to pronounce.
