GK Cup: A CBTL football game!

As a parent, I love to take my kids to activities during summer. Aside from swimming and basking in the sun. I like to take them to free workshops. I try to find free activities as we have a tight budget and saving for the enrollment of my eldest in college is a priority. As many of you know, sending your kid in college is very expensive now a days.

Last month, CBTL (The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf) sponsored a football cup for kids. CBTL kids (customer’s children) and children from Gawad Kalinga played for the said event and was held at The Camp in Taguig for a whole day.

I was able to take my daughter Zam (10) and son Aeon (7) to play. Supposedly, only kids ages 8-12 years old were allowed to join. However, they also allowed Aeon as he was so eager to play too!

As always, my kids were very eager and excited to go and play. So, early morning they ate their heavy breakfast as instructed by Kat of Caring Cup Team via email. They complied with no hesitation, a little wierd with my 7-year-old kid as he normally don’t eat much in the morning. They also asked Dad to make them their sheen guards the night before the game. Yes! It was DIY sheen guard! Thank you Dad!😊

In the venue, the kids were divided into 4 teams as Masipag, Matiyaga, Matulungin and Magalang. These were not just names given to these teams but the core values that Coffee Bean would like to impart to these kids.

The day began with drills headed by their coaches. All kids followed as they were instructed. The drills also allowed each team to get to know each other as they shout out the names of their team members to whom they are passing the ball.

It was scorching hot at The Camp that day. But, it didn’t bother the children as they run, kick and laugh at the same time. We were asked to bring our own water, but Coffee Bean still provided us cold water to drink. It was hot and the cold water was just refreshing. They also provided us light lunch which is okay since the children kept on running, so heavy lunch is not advisable.

After lunch, the friendly competition began.

It is so amazing how these young kids can really play well. Even the smallest ones are pretty good at it.

While my kids were playing, of course, I was cheering on top of my lungs! Hahaha! Go Aeon! Go Zam! Kick the ball baby! You can do it! Awesome, right? Well, mommies are the first and number 1 fans!😆😆😆

At the end of the game, the yellow green team which if I am not mistaken is the matulungin team was declared as the champion. Nevertheless, everybody showed exceptional  skills during the game and everyone was given a medal.

Overall, the event was outstanding.  My kids and I’m sure the rest of the kids who attended the event had a memorable experience through Coffee Bean’s initiative  and Gawad Kalinga.

Indeed, sports such as street football or just football is an effective way of teaching kids life skills and virtues such as discipline, punctuality and teamwork which SipaG Program aims to impart to kids of Gawad Kalinga Communities.

We went home with lots of stories to tell Dad. He wasn’t able to watch as he was a bit busy earning for our daily allowance although he wanted to watch as well. The pictures and videos I took gave him a glimpse of what happened together with the never-ending stories .👍

Let me take this opportunity to thank The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf for making us a part of this endeavor. And to the coaches for sharing your skills not just to my kids but to everyone who attended. My children are looking forward to the next event, CBTL! And I’m sure it will also be a hit!
